Garden Harvest

When I’m not in school or practicing baking at home, I busy myself in our patio garden.  Let’s say I started it about a month ago, sometime in May.  I’ll be posting our garden yields whenever they become available, so be on the look out!

Some things I planted from seeds: Cilantro, Basil, Scallions, Radishes, Yellow Squash, Zucchini, Green Beans and Zinnias (flowers).

Other things I bought as baby plants from the Grand Army Plaza farmers market: Greek Eggplant, Green Zebra and “Wild” Cherry Tomatoes, Thai and Jalapeno Chilies, Napa Cabbage, Shiso, Sugar Baby Watermelon,  Rosemary, English Thyme, Spearmint, Dill, Flat-leaf Italian Parsley, Lavender and Miniature Roses.

I’m also trying to grow some things in the planters in the backyard, but there is little hope for anything to really thrive there, given a massive and unreasonable Wisteria tree.  It gives us plenty of privacy from our neighbor’s yards, but is unruly and hasn’t even flowered yet this season, if it plans to at all.  We have one of those love/hate relationships with it.

Ewat and I are also responsible for maintaining the front garden, facing the street.  We have Hostas, some Evergreens and have recently planted a manicured perennial spread with Astilbe thrillers, Heuchera fillers and Lamium maculatum spillers.
